Although 2008 saw the record release and sales of the new World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, it was one of few success stories of the year. Games such as Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa, Hellgate: London and Pirates of the Burning Sea have all been discontinued or are hanging by a thread.
