Don McLean: Buddy Holly was a rock genius

Singer-songwriter Don McLean’s hit song “American Pie” called the 1959 plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson “the day the music died.” The following is based on a tribute McLean wrote for a book by Alan Howard: “The Don McLean Story: Killing Us Softly With His Songs”.
