Even when not explicit, ISP data caps still haunt users

Time Warner Cable’s data cap plan might be history (for now), but unpublished data caps live on thanks to the “acceptable use policy.” ISPs that continue to rely on ambiguous metrics for abuse had best tread carefully, as Comcast was sued last year by the state of Florida over that very issue.

The BBC Rehashes MPAA Propaganda

As a government owned corporation the BBC has a duty to educate, and be evenhanded in its dealings with subjects. Yet in a recent segment on their long-running ‘Film’ program, currently hosted by Jonathon Ross, the BBC ran a biased segment straight from the MPAA. The BBC on the other hand, believes it was fair and balanced.

Conficker Virus Begins To Attack Computers

Conficker, also known as Downadup or Kido, was expected to wreak havoc on April 1 when it was due to be activated, but it failed to cause many problems. Internet virus experts, however, claim it is now quietly turning thousands of personal computers into servers of e-mail spam and installing spyware.

Music Copyright In EU Extended To 70 Years

rastos1 writes “The European Parliament extended the copyright in the EU for the performers of musical works from 50 to 70 years. The legislation will be reviewed in 3 years. The European Commission will consider extending the scope to audiovisual works too.” So performers will collect for 20 more years from the date of performance; composers’ rights already extend to 70 years beyond their deaths.
