Apple has again failed to make a list of the best American companies to work for, according to Fortune. In its 2009 compilation, the top company is named as brokerage firm Edward Jones, which has managed to avoid any ties to the credit crisis and during 2008 hired 698 new financial advisors in the first 10 months. In the upcoming year, the firm is

“We wanted to give an update on the Mac business from what we are picking up from our latest supply chain checks,” Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu wrote in a report to clients Monday. “While new the iMac appears to be almost ready for primetime, what is holding it up appears to be business reasons and a potential small technical hurdle.”

The Macintosh turned 25 years old this past weekend, and Apple [AAPL] seems to be celebrating the occasion by sicking its blood-lusting attorneys on Palm [PALM] in a potential patent infringement suit. The intellectual property in question is Apple’s multi-touch software, which enables iPhone and iPod Touch users to interact with their devices …

All new Macs will come with the software, which lets Mac owners edit photos and movies and learn how to play musical instruments, among other things.

Apple’s claims include: ‘A computer-implemented method for use in conjunction with a computing device with a touch screen display comprises: detecting one or more finger contacts with the touch screen display, applying one or more heuristics to the one or more finger contacts to determine a command for the device, and processing the command. The one or more heuristics comprise: a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a one-dimensional vertical screen scrolling command, a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a two-dimensional screen translation command, and a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a command to transition from displaying a respective item in a set of items to displaying a next item in the set of items.’ As Apple seems eager to defend their intellectual property, what will this mean to other touch developers?”

Apple could be waiting to time the launch of the new iMacs with the launch of Mac OS X Snow Leopard operating system, which is expected to ship sometime around June.

Now that we’ve all celebrated the Macintosh’s 25th birthday, it’s time to start focusing on what Apple’s plans may be moving forward. From a home media server to a refreshed Mac Pro, some rumors are starting to brew as interest grows around what Apple may be up to.

Steve Jobs’s announcement on Jan. 14 that he will be taking a medical leave from Apple is not the first time the company will go without his services, as Mr. Jobs was not at Apple from 1985 to 1997. A look at Apple’s products before, during and after that time shows what effect Mr. Jobs has had on the company.

Research has found that consuming two glasses of apple juice a day could delay the onset of the brain disorder, which affects more than 400,000 people in the UK. Scientists made the discovery through laboratory tests on mice, which showed that those fed apple juice performed better in maze trials.
