In Barcelona at Mobile World Congress, the world’s biggest show on phones and other things wireless and portable, the town is bristling with parties and product launches. At Sony Ericsson’s bash, the company unveiled the code-named Idou, an iPhone-like critter with a 3.5-inch touch screen, an emphasis on entertainment, and 12.1mp camera with flash.

If you’re into SSD advancement, International Solid State Circuits Conference 2009 is the place to be. Shortly after hearing of a new power system designed to save energy and cut production costs comes this, a discovery involving wireless communications and a solid state drive composed of 64 (yes, sixty-four) 3D layered NAND Flash memory chips.

Urchin writes “The radio frequency spectrum available for wireless communication is becoming increasingly crowded thanks to new wireless technology. A solution to the shrinking space might be to put a spin on radio beams during their transmission, to produce a twisted beam, according to Swedish physicists. In theory, huge amounts of data could be sent in the pitch of the twist, which is distinct from the amplitude and frequency of radio waves — the features used at the moment to send information.”
