Next Pwn2Own Contest Targets IE8, Firefox, iPhone

Windows Secrets writes “After two straight years of taking dead aim at Macbooks and Windows-powered machines, hackers at this year’s CanSecWest conference will have shiny new targets: Web browsers and mobile phones. According to CanSecWest organisers, there will be two separate Pwn2Own competitions this year — one pitting hackers against IE8, Firefox 3 and Safari and another targeting Google Android, Apple iPhone, Nokia Symbian and Windows Mobile.”

Firm reiterates claims of entry-level iPhone this spring

Although Apple has downplayed the possibility of a stripped-down iPhone, the Royal Bank of Canada is reiterating claims this week that the company is gearing up to announce two new versions of its touch-screen handset, including an entry-level model that lacks both 3G connectivity and an unlimited data plan.

iPhone may not see light of day in China thanks to App Store

Apple’s on again-off again negotiations with China’s largest mobile carrier, China Mobile, have supposedly come to a standstill yet again. According to Interfax China, China Mobile CEO Wang Jianzhou is none too thrilled with the idea of Apple selling apps directly to China Mobile customers.
