Microsoft plays catch up to MobileMe with My Phone

Microsoft’s answer to portions of Apple’s MobileMe service was expected to be called SkyBox, but the company is now rebranding the mobile data sync service as My Phone, according to pages posted to the company’s Windows Mobile website.

Google Sync on iPhone and Windows Mobile Officially.

Google just announced a new service for pushing Gmail contacts and Google Calendar updates to mobile devices. For iPhone and Windows Mobile devices Google is using Exchange ActiveSync with some limitations due to the beta nature of the service, but it’ll also work on many other devices that support SyncML.

Microsoft Agrees To License ActiveSync To Google

JacobSteelsmith writes “Microsoft agreed today to license ActiveSync to Google. Google is using ActiveSync as part of Google Sync, which enables the synchronization of data between mobile devices and, presumably, Google Calendar and your contacts stored at Google. ‘Microsoft’s vice president of intellectual property and licensing, Horacio Gutierrez, said in a statement that the Google license is “a great example of Microsoft’s openness to generally license our patents under fair and reasonable terms so long as licensees respect Microsoft intellectual property.”‘”
